Who is The Zemel Choir?

The Zemel Choir, established in 1955, is proud of its international reputation as one of the world's finest mixed-voice Jewish choirs. Our wide-ranging repertoire embraces all the traditional Jewish cultures, Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Yiddish and Israeli. We regularly perform in major venues throughout the U.K. and overseas, and, besides singing well-known favourites, are particularly proud to present new music from contemporary composers.

In recent years we have also performed at the South Bank Centre and V&A museum, and have performed twice for the Mayor of London. In 2016 we took part in Drawing Life, a work based on original poems and drawings by the children held in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. This took place at the Barbican Centre and in local schools, We also run regular Come & Sing workshops aimed at attracting new singers to Jewish music.

Join Us!

We rehearse every Monday evening (with the exception of Bank Holidays and Jewish festivals) in North London. To maintain the high standard for which we are known, potential choristers are expected to audition with the Musical Director after they have attended a few rehearsals. If you enjoy singing Jewish music and have got some experience, we would love to hear from you. To help with the learning process of new music, we provide rehearsal tracks of most pieces that we sing, so that members can practice their parts between rehearsals. If you would like to join the choir, just come along to the next rehearsal.
